Tickle...

The person who did this... we think alike.

Through the hectic day of work and all that shizz, this made my day. I have no idea but the randomness of this little thing put a smile to my face. It's so stupid, but yet hilarious and its something I'd do. Finally hit a plateau in my training. So I've been planning to move into spicing things up by trying the Hypertrophy Specific Training (HST) program. It was the program that I wanted to try before the OVT. OVT has taken me this far and the gains were really impressive. I plan to take a few cycles of HST to check out how the results will be.

Dance Battle II & Curtin Sevens

The day was hectic. Expected as it's the first day back to campus. Life pretty much gained momentum super fast without pitstops. I'm mindfucking myself by just stayin awake to finish whatever I gotta finish. That being said, I'm summing up today as GOOD.

Checked out the Dance Battle teams at the review session this evening. I was really amused at the performances and the show this Friday's gonna be great! By the way, for those of you who do not know, the CITY Club organized the Dance Battle II. It's been made an inaugral event after last year's success. I DJ-ed last year's event and this year I'll be emceeing it. This year (from the review session), there'll be a mix of culture among the teams and it's really gonna be tough to judge them simply because they're all from different genres! Looking forward to the battle!

Just finished the design of the banner of the Curtin Rugby Sevens Tournament. The first time in the history of Curtin! National and international teams will be coming to kick ass. It's opened to public so do come check it out as well!

The SCTv Videos...

So here are the videos I made for orientation week. Simple really...

Need workout. Mental fatigue setting in. I have no idea why...

So fly...

My future sport!

After training at the gym, went over to the darling's place to pick her up. The plan was to just hang out and get our breather. Drove past the Piasau beach and saw plenty of the flying people (para-gliders?) Anyway, it was really awesome and I'm probably gonna take it up in the future alongside go-karting, skydiving and rock climbing!

Fly Ernie fly!

It's been ages since I flew a kite. So we decided to get one and go back to the past. It was the darling's first time flying a kite and she was thrilled! She brought it around like it was a pet... Then we posed with the natural background.

Sports Illustrated pose...

It was great. Hanging out at the beach and all. It's really been a while since we set foot on the sand. Now getting back to the world with tonnes of work, assignments, chores, errands, favours to complete.

Need meditation...

Wirelezz!

Finally got to install a wireless router at home. It's just funny how I can't really seem to connect well with other wireless routers elsewhere. So far this one's been incredibly stable of the whole lot of wi-fi's i've used. Thanks to Trutap, I'm able to post here in Blogger through my beloved phone. Now for some shut eye...

Of facebook and whiners...

precious fingers she knows how to hold the poison,
lick it deep and for no particular reason,

Midterm's gonna happen tomoro. I never thought I'd say this but I do miss exams. The stress building up inside my head trying to burst through every nerve endings in the great gray matter. Probably it's great cos I get to release the tension during training.

Learnt one thing about myself today and I have this thing with guy whiners. Unless a dude's homosexually inclined, there's no reason to whine and be a bitch about the surroundings and get all emo and stupid. Having these people around at the wrong time is never the greatest thing in the world. Then again, it's not worth the trouble to give six fucks about them. They just never die off do they?

Facebook! Found many peeps from high school (and beyond!) through that little community networking tool. It's great to see what happened to them peeps after so long! Seeing all of them in there and never being able to find them in Friendster before, I'm giving Facebook two thumbs up for that!

Came home from campus to realize that my jaws were hurting...
All the time I was gritting my teeth while I studied for my midterms...
It feels better now but not much was accomplished from the studying...
Just found out that I have visitors from other parts of the world.
Awesome...
World, please wish me luck for the midterms.

Training FAQ 01

I mentioned in my previous post the number of people asking me how they can lose weight by training with weights. Many want to be 'leanrippedandnotbulky' but its not as easy as it seems. Here are excerpts to some of the frequently asked questions to me lately. They answer doubts the best.

What if I don't want to get 'bulky' or look like a bodybuilder?
(excerpt from Tom Venuto's BFFM)

Judging by how often I hear concerns about getting “too big,” it’s obvious that many people think building muscle mass is easy. Believe me, gaining muscle is far from easy. It’s a long, difficult process for everyone except the most genetically gifted. It’s even more difficult for women, who have less of the muscle-building hormone, testosterone. Despite my reassurance, almost 100% of the women I’ve coached (and some of the men) have still been worried about getting big “bulky” muscles. If this is a concern for you, let me put you at ease…

This fear of “getting too big” usually comes from seeing pictures of professional bodybuilders in the magazines. Almost 100% of professional bodybuilders take steroids and other anabolic drugs to get abnormally large muscle mass. If you’ve ever seen pictures of female bodybuilders with massive, masculine-looking muscles (and faces), the odds are good that they were using steroids, male hormones, or other muscle enhancing drugs.

Unless you’re a “genetic freak” with a high mesomorph component, you’re not going to get too big from weight training. You’re also not going to wake up one morning and notice that you’ve sprouted massive bulk overnight. The process takes place slowly, and you’re totally in control of how you want your body to look. If you ever reach the point where you have all the muscle you want, it’s very easy to change your training and nutrition to maintenance.

Higher reps burn more fat?
(excerpt from Tom Venuto's BFFM)

It’s a myth that high reps burn more fat. In fact, quite the opposite it true. Remember what I said earlier about high lean body mass burning more fat at rest because of a higher BMR? Well, if that’s true, then wouldn’t you want to use the repetition rangethat builds the most muscle?

The actual performance of a repetition is not what burns the fat. Calories are burned with every rep, of course, but the fat burning effect from weight training comes into play after the exercise from the increase in post workout calorie expenditure (EPOC) and the increase in BMR from having more lean body mass.

Weight training burns the most body fat after the workout. Cardio training burns the most fat during the workout. The real fat burning value in weight training is the increased metabolic rate after the workout, which has nothing to do with the number of repetitions you perform. Building more lean mass increases your metabolic rate and keeping your reps in the six to twelve range is the most efficient way to build lean mass.

Porn vs Sex?

???

I just don't get it why some people prefer porn to sex...
And I ain't just saying this for fun but for a fact...
Beats me...

BIG!

BACK THEN vs NOW

Most of the time when I bring a new training partner, and bring them through the gruelling routine I do, I always get a comment about not being 'big and bulky like bodybuilders' but 'lean and ripped like models'. No one can be big and bulky without some kinda help and still, they've got to train really really hard and long to achieve that. Bodybuilders don't do 10 reps of 25lbs curls and grow huge ass arms overnight. They work their way up and let me just reassure you that its no fuckin walk in the park.

So yeah, fear not, and don't be afraid of training with weights. Same goes for ladies as well. To achieve huge bulky scary she-man looks, they trained very hard and unless you have the genetics of a Neanderthal, with a proper program, you will not end up like a bodybuilder as easily. Easily means after a couple of months.

For people who even BOTHER to worry about these kinda things, it's obvious that they do not train enough. People who actually train a lot know that these things just take a long time. And not just a long time. A fuckin long period full of proper nutrition, diet, training and supplements. Speaking of which, I do envy a lot of old school bodybuilders during Arnold's time. Arnold himself, Frank Zane, Serge Nubret... They were the best classics in my opinion. Bodybuilders nowadays are so full of chemicals I think they should be under a separated species. But they have trained a lot and that is something they've earned. So I gotta respect them for that.

Anyway, here's a motivational pic I always keep at the back of my head...

o m f g

werk werk...

Your defenses were on high
Your walls built deep inside
Yeah I'm a selfish bastard
But at least I'm not alone

Life's been hectic lately. I guess this is how it's supposed to be. Being in the final year and all. The units I'm taking aren't many but the workload is pure madness! Gotta juggle many projects and assignments. A good thing that happened is that I take pride in actually feeling responsible to start my work and do it. It's probably about time I took things seriously (after a couple of years!). Just can't afford to waste any more time studyin undergrad.

My intentions never change
What I wanted stays the same
And I know what I should do
it's time to set myself on fire

Training has been great so far, apart from the fact that leg training is slower than ever. Bel told me that my legs were losing plenty of mass and that scares me. Need to up the training for mass. I think I've hit a plateau of strength gains. My strength has been stagnant and it needs to be pushed. Next week a cheat week and super heavy weights to stimulate hypertrophy? We'll see about it. The gym's my breather and I got plenty of it today with super intense training. Lately training has been intense I'm guessing thanks to the plenty of stress studies and workloads that has been thrown to me. Gonna include a daily meal log from next post onwards.
